The Lake Norman Covekeepers will meet at 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 23, at our normal venue (East Lincoln Fire Department, 206 S. Pilot Knob Road, Stanley) with guest speaker Sam Perkins, the Catawba Riverkeeper. Sam does not get to many of our meetings, so this is a special treat. The Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation has been busy, both on the water and in the courts. Sam will update us on the status of litigation involving Lake Norman’s Marshall and Lake Wylie’s Allen coal ash ponds. Discovery is now closed, and dozens of witnesses and experts have been deposed. In the process, Sam has learned a lot about these sites, which he will share with us. In addition, he will discuss maps, CRF events, and the upcoming Water Watcher training taking place in Denver on April 1. Plan now on attending this informative presentation by our Riverkeeper on the Foundation’s past, present, and future endeavors. For more information, contact Ben Benoit (704-489-6249).
