CRF Releases Results of Heavy Metals and PCBs Sampling on Mtn. Island Lake
On June 17th, 2010 Catawba Riverkeeper David Merryman issued a press release outlining the results of lab tests on water, sediment and fish tissue samples taken from Mountain Island Lake.
Catawba Riverkeeper David Merryman along with several volunteers recently collected water, sediment and fish samples from Mountain Island Lake that have been analyzed for the presence and concentrations of 8 heavy metals and PCBs. At a June 18th press event held at the Mtn. Island Lake Neck Road Access he announced to the media that scientific analysis of the collected samples revealed 2 metals present in the water column, 6 metals in its sediment sample and 3 metals in a composite largemouth bass fish tissue sample. The contaminants were found in samples taken at the Duke Energy coal ash pond discharge on MIL which is a source of the pollution. More information about these important test results can be found here.
