Mountain Island Lake Tree Planting
November 22 Mountain Island Lake Tree Planting
The Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation is taking part in the Mountain
Island Lake Tree Planting hosted by Sierra Club, American Forests,
County of Mecklenburg, and Central Piedmont Community College.
We invite the public to join us in planting over 2,500 trees on Saturday November22, 2008 along the Mcdowell Creek. This creek flows directly into Mountain Island Lake, Charlotte Mecklenburg's primary source of water. Like many other creeks in this area, it has been left unprotected and vulnerable to deforestation and encroaching buburbia, which leads to shoreline destabilization, flooding, and dirty water.

As
a part of the Catawba River system, Mountain Island Lake will share in
the difficulties of what American Rivers named "The most endangered
river."
