MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. -- Water rates could be going down in Mecklenburg County, but only for the people who use the most water.

The Charlotte City Council could vote on the issue Monday. Right now, your bill is decided on a four-tier system. Basically, the more water you use, the more you pay.

The idea is to encourage conservation, but some said the new proposal encourages excessive use.

 

"I wish I could explain the logic behind this change," Catawba River keeper David Merryman said.

  • Failure to control sediment from construction sites
  • Illegal clearing of buffer areas
  • Fish kills 
  • Invasive aquatic species
  • Exceeding Pollution Limits
  • Discharges exceeding allowable limits
  • Unpermitted discharges
  • Other issues that concern you
