Two More Sewer Overflows in Hickory
The City of Hickory reported that it had two sanitary sewer overflows on December 9, 2009, due to the heavy rainfall in early morning hours.
On December 9, approximately 8:00 a.m. the City was notified of a sanitary sewer overflow in the 1500 block of 10th Street Place, NW consisting of approximately 10,500 gallons and was caused by the heavy rains that overloaded the system. The overflow was discharged into Horseford Creek of the Catawba River basin.
The second discharge occurred at the Northeast WWTP influent pump station on Cloninger Mill Road at 7:00 a.m. consisting of approximately 8,000 gallons and was caused by the heavy rain that overloaded the system. The overflow was discharged into Falling Creek of the Catawba River basin.
The Mooresville Regional Office of the Division of Water Quality was notified, and the spill had no negative impact on the environment. If you have any questions about these overflows, call the City of Hickory Public Utilities Department at 828-323-7427.
