Urban Creek Cleanup Nets 1,300 pounds!

2015 Briar Creek TRIB Cleanup

On a humid Saturday morning, employees from Wells Fargo and the Concord Mills Disney Store worked throughout the morning to clean an unnamed tributary in the Grier Heights neighborhood.

The creek enters Briar Creek downstream from the Mint Museum. Briar Creek drains to Little Sugar Creek, which connects with Sugar Creek and soon after the Catawba River in South Carolina.

This haul means 1,300 pounds of trash will neither float down nor leach out to the beautiful free-flowing river. Our haul:

  • 25 bags of trash
  • 20 baseballs (we were near baseball fields) and a home plate
  • 3 car tires
  • 2 bicycles
  • 2 shopping carts
  • 1 mattress
  • Notable miscellaneous items: multiple oil filters; Lamborghini (Hot Wheels); lots of tubing/hose; toy guitar

There were still tires and shopping carts we'll have to return and retrieve after a high-flow event loosens them up.

Thank you everyone for coming out!
