Information, maps and links about Lake James

Lake James - Seated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the first lake in the system, Lake James gathers surface water from its west by way of the infant Catawba River and the north from the streams of the Pisgah National Forest. Built over seven years beginning in 1916, Lake James' 6,812 acres offer four public boat launches, one marina, a state park and below the hydroelectric dam, a tailrace fishing and canoe access area. A second dam, the Catawba Dam is currently having extensive seismic stabilization work done.
