The storms starting at the end of last week have brought rain and flooding to the Piedmont. Rain gages along the river recorded 6 to 9 inches from Marion to Statesville. Charlotte and Rock Hill were spared the worst of the rain only to watch Mountain Island Lake and Catawba downstream of Lake Wylie flood. There is or has been flooding on Lake James, Lake Rhodhiss, Look Out Shoals Lake, Mountain Island Lake, the South Fork at Lowell, the Catawba River at Rock Hill, and the Catawba River at Camden. Flooding is expected on Lake Wateree starting tonight.
Severe property damage, dozens of swift water rescues and at least 3 fatalities have been reported. Thus far there have been no reported breaches of the coal ash or other industrial waste. If a road appears flooded, please do not attempt to drive through it. It only takes a few inches of moving water to slide a vehicle off the road.
If you see sewer overflows, sediment, or some other type of pollution entering a waterway, use this site to report it. Current water levels and forecasts can be found here. For lake level reporting 100ft is the top of the dam. Anything over 100ft is flooding.
