As Technical Manager, Claire Atkins-Davis oversees the day-to-day operations of water quality programs for Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation. In this role, she manages the organization’s sampling and monitoring programs under the direction of Riverkeeper Brandon Jones, including the popular Swim Guide program.
Claire also serves as the GIS Specialist for Catawba Riverkeeper and a partnership between our organization, the Catawba-Wateree Initiative, Foothills Conservancy, and Catawba Lands Conservancy to develop, manage, and distribute the Source Water Protection Model to planners, developers, and elected officials around the basin.
Claire recently graduated with her Master’s in Environmental Management from Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment, which allowed her to pursue technical, political and ecological components for effective natural resource management. Her specific area of interest involved using remote sensing technologies to monitor, model and map ecologically important coastal and marine areas, track species and characterize underwater soundscape ecology. During the pursuit of her graduate degree in Coastal Environmental Management, Claire also received a certificate in Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
She previously attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where she received her Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science and Bachelors of Arts in Spanish.
In her spare time Claire loves enjoying the outdoors hiking, biking, kayaking, camping and going to concerts. Claire was born on Earth Day and has always felt a responsibility to protect the environment and restoring critical ecosystem services.
