We believe that education is a critical part of the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation’s mission.   For every community that we serve along the Catawba River, the Catawba Riverkeeper offers a variety of educational programs and experiences for students & life-long learners of all ages.

Programs Offered

In-Person Programs – You come to us or we come to you. Topics include: Water Quality and Quantity, Water Quality Issues, Water Sampling, Macroinvertebrate Sampling, Guided Nature Walks, Wetlands, Ecology of the Catawba River Basin, and History of the Catawba River. Rates start at $10/person for groups of 10 or more.

Education Programs with an on-the water experience – $25/person for up to 15 people, must request a minimum of 6 weeks in advance.

Riverkeeper Learning Series

The Catawba Riverkeeper invites you to learn about the people, places, and things that depends on clean, plentiful water.  This monthly series is open to members and non-members as an opportunity to learn more from others in our river basin. Thanks to Xylem for sponsoring this program.


In 2022 we offered a Spring Break Camp and 3 summer camp sessions. Check back for 2023 camps.

Field Trips & Presentations

Engaging students grades 3-12 with the Catawba River through hands-on environmental education.  We offer multiple lessons and locations to choose from.


Catawba Riverkeeper’s CREEK program is a multifaceted community outreach and partnership opportunity for youth living in the Catawba-Wateree River Basin. 

CREEK,  Community Resources in Education, Engagement, and Kayaking, seeks to build authentic relationships that empower individuals to be stakeholders in the protection of the river: her creeks, streams, and local lakes.
