Join Catawba Riverkeeper at The Boathouse on the 4th Monday of each month April – October for rotating outdoor sports.

Each event will begin at 6:30 PM. After introductions, the group will paddle, bike, or run for about 45 minutes to an hour. Then, we invite you to hang out at The Boathouse, where you can drink a beer and shop new and used outdoor gear and apparel.

Physicians from OrthoCarolina will be on site at various events to share some injury prevention and prehab tips!

April 26, 2021 | 1-2 mile Flatwater Paddle

  • Topic: The Importance of Clean Water
  • Description: We will begin the Paddle, Bike, Run Series powered by OrthoCarolina with something at the forefront of our mission: Clean Water. We will experience this firsthand by exploring and paddling a short section of the South Fork River and discussing how your efforts can impact our region. Afterwards, we’ll continue the discussion over local craft beers which starts with the base ingredient of … you guessed it, water!
  • Gear: Participants can bring their own gear or rent kayaks, paddles, and PFDs for $20 ($10 for CRF members) upon arrival. First come, first served on kayak rentals.

May 24, 2021 | 4 mile Mountain Bike Group Ride

  • Topic: Biking Prehab with OrthoCarolina
  • Description: We will learn some tips, stretches, and exercises to stay healthy and prepped for biking before taking off on a group mountain bike ride on the South Fork Trail. We will begin and end at the trailhead located directly next to The Boathouse. Stick around afterwards for local craft beer, questions and further discussion of other local mountain bike trails that we recommend.

June 28, 2021 | 4 mile Group Trail Run

  • Topic: Trail Running 101
  • Description: Looking to get into trail running, but not sure where to start? Gear, trail etiquette, climbing/descending, and more … we will go over the basics to get you more comfortable and, on your way, to enjoying the many trail systems in our region. After the basics, we will go on a group trail run on the South Fork Trail. The trailhead is located directly next to The Boathouse where we will start and finish. After the run, we will stick around and answer any trail running questions you have over a local craft beer or two.

July 26, 2021 | 1-2 mile Flatwater Paddle

  • Topic: Paddling Prehab with OrthoCarolina
  • Description: We will learn some tips, stretches, and exercises to stay healthy and prepped for paddling before launching on a group flatwater paddle along the South Fork of the Catawba River. We will start and finish at the kayak launch location directly next to The Boathouse. After the paddle we will stick around for local craft beer and further discussion about different types of boats and sections of the 8900 miles of waterways within the Catawba-Wateree River Basin.
  • Gear: Participants can bring their own gear or rent kayaks, paddles, and PFDs for $20 ($10 for CRF members)

August 23, 2021 | 4-5 mile Road Cycling Group Ride

  • Topic: Road Cycling 101
  • Description: Looking to get into road cycling, but not sure where to start? Gear, etiquette, maintenance, and more … we will go over the basics to get you more comfortable and, on your way, to enjoying this lifelong sport. After the basics, we will go on a group ride through the streets of McAdenville to test some of the skills we just learned. We might even stick around afterwards and show you how to change a flat tire over a local craft beer or two.

Sept 27, 2021 | 4 mile Group Run

  • Topic: Running Prehab via OrthoCarolina
  • Description: We will learn some tips, stretches, and exercises to stay healthy and prepped for running before taking off on a group road run that will start and finish at The Boathouse. Our route will meander throughout the Town of McAdenville and include several road crossings. After the run, stick around for some local craft beer and other road running discussions.
  • Gear: Sunset is at 7:12pm – participants should bring a headlamp or illumination device and dress in bright clothes

October 25, 2021 | 2 mile Night Hike

  • Description: Active prep for Halloween … ever wonder what animals do at night? Join us as we give an overview of the nighttime wildlife in our region before we set off on our own group night hike along the South Fork Trail in search of our friends. The trailhead is located directly next to The Boathouse where we will start and finish. After the hike, stick around and enjoy a local craft beer and more conversation about the critters in our region.
