COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT MANAGER

April Halterman

Working at the Catawba Riverkeeper gives April a sense of purpose and brings her closer to her values. Engaging with the local community through recreation, arts, and music to broadcast the Riverkeeper’s passion for preserving, protecting, and restoring is a big part of her responsibilities. She cares deeply about the nature surrounding her, and the Riverkeeper’s mission to help it.

Her love for the outdoors and arts was always present throughout her childhood and became more forward-facing during her time at Appalachian State University. After graduation, she found herself working at a wedding venue booking events, and then as a manager at the local Recreation Center. Within those roles and by living in the mountains, she realized her dual passion for recreation and her love for being creative.

April joined the Catawba Riverkeeper in 2023 and is excited to be a part of an organization that has a lasting impact. She is the Community Engagement Manager and works to bring the local community together by way of two key locations: Confluence and the Boathouse. She works to program engaging events that inspire the public to get involved, get out on the water, and impact the Catawba River.
