Here are some Water-Saving Tips

The Catawba Riverkeeper
  • Reduce the amount of electricity you use

When it comes to conserving water, conserving electricity is just as important. The average family of four uses roughly 400 gallons of water per day through direct use (cooking, cleaning, etc.). That same family of four uses 1,200 gallons of water per day through the electricity that they consume.

Turn off lights when you leave a room, use energy efficient appliances, and adjust your heating/cooling settings. Yo can also conserve water by using renewable energy sources like solar and wind.

  • Collecting rain water for household uses such as gardening and outdoor cleaning

Rain barrel collection system can be simple and easy to install. Using collected rainwater to garden rather than municipal water can have a huge household impact on your water footprint. CRF hosts rain barrel workshops to help get you started, see our Events page for more information.

Water conservation is about making both small and large changes on a personal and community level.
