Kaity D'Angelo

Volunteer and Community Science Manager

Kaity D'Angelo

Kaity works to merge community and service to protect the most important natural resource we have – our water! She manages stream and river cleanups, including organizing Riversweep, the largest one-day cleanup in the southeast, as well as many ongoing community science and volunteer opportunities such as swim guide, monofilament fishing line recycling, outreach events, and more. Building lasting relationships with individuals and groups in the community & connecting residents to take ownership of their natural resources is at the heart of every volunteer project. Kaity works closely with the Engagement Manager and the Protect team of scientists on projects that promote the health and sustainability of our river basin and provide opportunities that bridge the gap between our waterways and the surrounding communities.

Kaity came to Charlotte after college and stumbled into the whitewater industry while trying to start on a chosen career path. Water runs through her soul, it’s her happy place, so it was hard for her to not to fall in love with everything about river life. Having spent every work day outside, in the water, meeting new people, she realized my path in life had changed and that she'd never look at work in the same way. Her love for the river and desire to protect it works in tandem with her love of helping others find joy or passion on their own similar adventures. After a decade of experience working on, exploring, and managing programs in the rivers and creeks around the Southeast, what makes her happiest are the opportunities she gets each day to share her passion and knowledge for water with others and work together to protect this resource.
